Be More Chill, the on again off again and seemingly irresistible overnight sensation, is indeed headed to Broadway. Be More Chill will start previews in February of 2019 at the Lyceum Theatre. There are still a handful of performances remaining at the Irene Diamond Stage at Signature Theatre.

Be More Chill very rapidly became a monster hit amongst its teen heavy audience seemingly in the blink of an eye. Prior to the performances that started in the summer of 2018 at Signature Theatre, Be More Chill had only executed a modest run at a much smaller venue and proverbial ‘stage’ in New Jersey. The run in New Jersey was all of a month.
The accompanying Cast Album and hits such as “Michael In The Bathroom” is the main driving force behind Be More Chill currently. The songs absolutely took off like a rocket on social media and Youtube. Be More Chill was the second most popular Musical on Tumblr in 2017 trailing only Hamilton. Be More Chill ranked ahead of Dear Evan Hansen.
As the viral nature of social networks sent strong signals the show’s management and ownership decided to bring it back to the stage in 2018. It very easily could have faded into obscurity and the dustbins of history. It is truly remarkable how teen blogging and social media is literally sending this little known musical to the big stage and heavy scrutiny of Broadway.
From the Two River Theatre to the Lyceum Theatre, here we come and we are bringing hundreds of thousands of passionate teens. How long can it last? Well, observers are noting that the show tackles how a teen can address the voices in his/her head and tough topics such as depression and anxiety. Musicals that have the music AND the depth and impact on life tend to do quite well. We shall see.
