Celtics Fans: What About Giannis Antetokounmpo?

No.  There’s your answer.  No – I admit I have no idea how to pronounce this player’s last name and I’m sketchy on the first name.  What I do know is that this young player is a 6’11” burgeoning 21 year old with three NBA seasons under his belt.  Oh yeah, his averages for points, assists, rebounds, blocks, and steals have all trended higher during his first three years.  So, why aren’t the Boston Celtics pursuing this young man via a trade with the Milwaukee Bucks?

Admittedly it is entirely possible Danny Ainge has pursued this option only to meet strong resistance or outright refusal from the Bucks.  However, everything is for sale in life at the right price and the Celtics have “tons of assets” as the Green Teamers loyal fans keep reminding us.

Giannis Antetokounmpo is a near seven footer that has excellent ball skills and even runs the point a good portion of the time he is on the floor.  He can create his own shoot and both shoot from the exterior and drive to the basket.  Stop reading right now if this doesn’t fit in with your vision of “pace and space” in today’s NBA and the dreams of Boston Celtics coach Brad Stevens.

What about the three point shot?  After shooting 34% in his rookie season Giannis Antetokounmpo slumped to below 20% in his sophomore year and bumped back up to 26% in the 2015-2016 season.  At this point he isn’t a great three point bomber by any means but he did shoot above 50% from the floor last season overall and can develop that long range shot as he matures.

Recent talk surrounds potential trades with the Philadelphia Sixers and the Los Angeles Lakers along with various players coming in to work out for the Celts.  If they do hold this #3 pick in the 2016 draft the player selected is absolutely crucial to the success of the team in the next 1-3 years.  After all, how many years will fans allow “Trader Danny” to continue to “stockpile assets” without actually putting together a championship contender.

Who should the Celtics pursue via a trade and/or free agency?  What are your thoughts?
