Tool’s Track “Fear Inoculum”: Triumphantly Brilliant

Contributor: I Nkem

Tool is art. Everything else might merely resemble a jingle, and is certainly not . . . . well, Tool. To think one could provide a swift “review” of this art with just a quick listen or even just a handful of listens is preposterous. This art is a lifelong journey best consumed steadily while learning along the way. Rolling Stone tabbed FI “a formal masterpiece that should stand the test of time”.

Who cares how long the wait was – it’s all over now and our ability to absorb and transpose time should be something all Tool fans can contemplate. The new album from Tool named Fear Inoculum is forthcoming at last.

What does the album title mean? Like all amazing and incredible art, we will take the path of leaving that up to how each individual chooses to interpret it. There may be multiple interpretations. The different levels of voices Maynard uses. Danny on the drums seemingly with more tentacles than an octopus. Adam and Justin grinding. This track is very much Tool. This author however has a certain reaction convincingly to the first track officially released: the title track “Fear Inoculum”.

The track “Fear Inoculum” is triumphantly brilliant. Call it a blend of “Third Eye”, “Lateralus”, and “Reflection” if you want . . . . . that is all up to anyone’s particular assessment and view. To this author this track is a beautiful and gorgeous piece of art.

Update: September 9th, 2019

Didn’t provide this particular update until feeling legitimately as though there were enough listens without distractions to make some sort of judgments. This is just opinion and can change of course at any time. At this point these are the tracks ranked in terms of which we like the best (wich could differ from which we consider the best quality music):

“Fear Inoculum”

“Pneuma”

“7Empest”

“Chocolate Chip Trip”

“Descending”

“Invincible”

“Culling Voices”

it’s very clear the fans are speaking. Tool has topped the Billboard Top Artist list for several weeks in a row through mid-September. This is very rare for a rock band and they did this without gimmicks or giveaways. Tool is beating out Swiftie and Post Malone.

Granted the other two are whatever versions one has listened to of a recent show, but how do you rank “Invincible”, “Descending”, and “Fear Inoculum”. Brutally tough. We’ll land in this order for now:

“Descending”

“Fear Inoculum”

“Invincible”

Speaking of art, the track brought back fond memories of one of this year’s several trips to the Institute of Contemporary Art. There was an absolutely stunning piece among many during the exhibition by Huma Bhabha – simply could not stop staring at it and trying to find and comprehend all of the amazing gems inside. Hopefully we don’t end up chasing the tail of dogma at any point.

Note: This article is NOT stating any connection between Tool and this painting. This is simply an observation of art observed throughout the year and connections in one person’s mind. This painting is the work of the stunningly talented and creative Huma Bhabha.

Here is “Pneuma”. Wow, just wow. This is so intense and authentic. Very, very much worth the wait for fans.
