Fantasy Football Value Gem: Week 1

Fantasy Football Value Gem: Here we are in Week 1 of the 2016 season for the National Football League.  Another Fantasy Football season is upon us so who really cares about how your team performs right? It’s time for some Fantasy Football action and we need to find at least one Value Gem for our Week 1 roster (kidding about your team’s performance of course that is important!).

Let’s take a look at the Philadelphia Eagles and their very young crop of WR facing a Cleveland Browns team that to put it politely was at times horrendous on defense last season. The Week 1 Fantasy Football Value Gem play for Week 1 at SeatsForEveryone.com is Dorial Green-Beckham. Who?  You never heard of this guy?

The first thing that jumps out as a concern of course is that the Eagles are rolling out their highly touted #1 draft pick at QB and everyone knows that a rookie QB can’t have any success whatsoever in his first game.  Well, that isn’t necessarily true as some have had big games actually but it is a concern to be relying on a rookie in his first start to get the ball to the selection.  One thing the rookie might look for is someone that is reliable.  At 6’5” and 237 pounds Dorial Green-Beckham has the size not far from a TE’s size and he is coming in off a trade to Philly in his second season trying to advance his career.  Green-Beckham didn’t get much playing time in the first half of 2015 but in the second half he was the Titans most productive option at WR.  He also faces questions about his work ethic stemming from the coaching staff in Tennessee.  He could be very confident and motivated out there on the field and actually help the rookie settle into the game by being a reliable target.   He could also present some mismatch opportunities with his size advantage especially in the Red Zone.

In 2015 the Cleveland Browns gave up the fourth highest point total in the National Football League. Cleveland was also ranked 11th highest in passing yards/game allowed and that includes teams playing with a lead against them and killing the clock late.  This is a young team attempting to transition from league doormat to viable playoff team, but even with offseason changes it is reasonable to assume the Cleveland Browns may still have legitimate challenges on defense. This Week 1 matchup may end up being an excellent opportunity for the Philadelphia Eagles to unveil the rookie QB and try and get the offense rolling a little bit.

We shall see what happens and anything certainly can in the NFL and with Fantasy Football. Dorial Green-Beckham is a very affordable option in Week 1 at WR and he may just surprise some fans. Let’s have fun watching the games and give him a shot this week.
