Eduardo Rodriguez: Maybe This Is The Year

Earlier in the year during spring training we chimed in on another forum about the likelihood of Eduardo Rodriguez finally hitting his stride this season for the Boston Red Sox.  By that we mean hitting his stride and being productive for an entire year.  Here is a portion of that piece:

Here is how Erod performed in his first two MLB seasons:

10-6, 3.85 ERA, 1.290 WHIP, 98 K, 13 HR, 121.2 IP

3-7, 4.71 ERA, 1.299 WHIP, 100 K, 16 HR, 107.0 IP

In order for 2017 to be THE year for Eduardo Rodriguez it really boils down to two things: health and consistency.  This may sound like taking the easy way out in terms of explanation.  That said, let’s face it he is pitching for a stacked team offensively that has the best outfield defense in MLB. If he stays healthy and consistent he should put up juicy numbers.

That information gets us caught up on what Erod has done in MLB.  Let’s get up to speed on what is taking place this year.  On May 11th Rodriguez came through with another very powerful performance.  He tossed six innings of three hit ball walking zero batters.  He gave up one run and fanned five Brewers.  This puts his ERA for the year at 2.80.

Erod has a 1-1 W/L record which may suggest he hasn’t had much of an impact.  That is not the case.  His 2.80 ERA is a major sign of strength and he has struck out 42 batters while only walking 15 (five in one ugly game).  The most runs surrendered in one game by Rodriguez this year is four.  The team has a chance every time when he takes the hill.  It all comes down to health.  It is extremely encouraging to see Rodriguez start the season on time and be about six weeks into it with no signs of lingering or nagging injuries.  He is throwing strikes and keeping the team in ballgames.  If he can keep this up and stay healthy don’t be surprised if he has some very juicy stats by the end of the year.
