Looking for a little action prior to the juicy selection of races on Saturday? Perhaps Race 8 on Thursday offers an interesting possibility for a long shot to make some noise. Maybe this one can be used on multi-race exotics and vertical wagers or however you choose if at all.
Race 8 – The Intercontinental F&M 4YO and Up 7F (Turf)
2 – Distorted Beauty
15/1 morning line
Here’s a few reasons why this horse might run well here:
Late Speed/Distance/Surface/Pattern
- Horse tailed off running around two turns last fall and has been off since late November. Needed the break and comes back in a one turn turf sprint but at a challenging sprint distance of 7F which fits her well
- She came off the bench last year at Belmont going 6F and ran a 90 fig and won going away.
- Trainer is 20% off a 180+ layoff and 24% overall in Stakes
- Has the stamina and route/sprint type of angle that can often work well in 6.5F or 7F turf sprints especially when there is pace to set up her late kick
- 5/7 lifetime in the exacta on the Belmont green
- Same race last year closed for 3rd comments state “traffic upper, 6p 1/8”
This isn’t knocking these other horses but here’s a few thoughts on why some of the favorites could be beatable here:
1 – Definitely has the speed figs to compete no doubt but distance is the question. Last out going shorter she coughed it up late and now she goes 7/8ths. Best fig ever run was at just 5F. Down the hill at SA masks the distance challenge possibly.
3 – Miss ran just 11 days ago and got worn down late up front. No edge on figs but could be competitive but boy that is coming back real quick.
8 – Probably the heavy chalk and won this last year. Off the bench last out was ok but a bit even late. Aside from her two races last year running 96 and 97 would you see her as a monster here?
