Charges against Cleveland Cavaliers guard Kevin Porter Jr. stemming from his arrest last month have been dismissed, his lawyer Alex Spiro told ESPN.
Porter was arrested Nov. 15 and charged with improper handling of a firearm in a motor vehicle after he flipped his Mercedes SUV on an interstate southeast of Cleveland. Police found a loaded .45-caliber handgun and a small amount of marijuana in the vehicle, which had its windows smashed after it landed next to the road.
Police did not believe Porter was under the influence of alcohol or drugs at the time of the crash.
A grand jury in Mahoning County declined to indict Porter on the felony gun charge. Misdemeanor charges of marijuana possession and driving without a license were also dismissed. Porter admitted fault for failure to control his vehicle.
Porter, who averaged 10 points in 50 games as a rookie last season, has not been a part Cavaliers full-team workouts in training camp due to personal reasons but had been doing individual workouts.
