Patriots Fans: How quickly things can change it seems for Patriots fans.  On Thursday and Friday of Week 1 in the NFL New England fans began to seriously discount an inevitable loss on the road in Week 1 given the loss of Gronk and a makeshift offensive line heading to Arizona.  Coming off a very impressive and perhaps unexpected win at Arizona in Week 1, Patriots fans have seemingly pushed the pendulum back into the direction of “In Beli We Trust” and “The Patriot Way” dominating the NFL by default.

Apparently most have completely forgot about the botched drop-kick on a kickoff against the Philadelphia Eagles, interesting personnel moves, and deplorable game planning and play calling versus the Miami Dolphins in the season finale last season.  All of those items no doubt cost the Patriots the number one seed and home field for the AFC Championship.  This isn’t the ONLY reason they lost to the Denver Broncos but it certainly made it tougher to win having to go to Denver.

More importantly, despite the euphoria surrounding the Patriots victory there were other teams that played in Week 1.  Of note are the performances by both the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers.  The Denver Broncos beat the Carolina Panthers and demonstrated that their offensive line is functioning quite well and they may have found a perfectly capable QB that nobody was aware of before last Thursday night.   When you add that to their defense the team appears to be a very legitimate contender in the AFC.  On Monday night the Pittsburgh Steelers piled up 38 points when trouncing the Washington Redskins on the road and they did this without the services of Le ‘Veon Bell at RB.  There is no doubt Coach Belichick is more than aware that one Patriot win does not assure of any type of long term success.

Sunday night’s win was definitely a great win overcoming the loss of Gronk, both starting tackles, and unveiling a new QB. However, the NFL season is a long marathon and this was merely one game.  Let’s see how things shake out over the course of the entire season because EVERY team in the NFL will go through adversity.

The Patriots will make mistakes this season.  Patriots fans will flip flop several times.   Belichick will make mistakes this season.  There will be more injuries.  Players that are currently injured will make it back into the mix.   It’s a long season.  That was a great win but there are several areas that need improvement, and don’t forgot about all of the other teams in the AFC not the least of which are the Denver Broncos and Pittsburgh Steelers.
