Los Angeles Rams Playing Surface, Quarterbacks, and Tickets

It’s really happening. There is NFL football in Los Angeles and it is here in 2016. Merlin Olsen, Deacon Jones, and Bo Jackson are just three of the legendary names to play professional football in the L.A. Coliseum and just scroll through your memories for all of the famous college football heroes to take the field in the Memorial Coliseum.  One of the most intriguing aspects is that the Rams are going back to the exact same building they occupied for three decades, and they are doing so in a venue that is now a historic 96 years of age.

So, what will fans experience at home games for the Los Angeles Rams this season? That remains to be seen and it will be the reality over the next three seasons while the team waits for the megaplex to be constructed in nearby Inglewood. The reality is the Coliseum simply is not equipped in the same way as most NFL venues in terms of luxury suites, concessions, security requirements mandated by the NFL, and the high tech connectivity so commonly found around the league.  How much of an impact this has remains to be seen but so far demand for tickets has been explosive, even though the number of seats available for purchase is a moving target.

One other thing to keep a close eye on is the condition of the playing surface. The Rams will share the field with USC which has 6 or 7 games there per season and it is possible another NFL joins them at the Coliseum prior to the Inglewood facility being open.

However, as the novelty of the move and the current playing surface wears off fans and the media will zoom in on the team’s performance and especially the situation at QB. It looks like Case Keenum might be the guy for the foreseeable future but how long will the hold back the highly touted draft pick Jared Goff? Even in Keenum plays moderately well he is what he is as they say with Goff the one with vastly more upside.  Who knows how it shakes out but there will be pressure to build a winning program particularly with the super stadium megaplex looming over the coach and organization.

What do you think? It sure is an exciting time to be a Los Angeles Rams fan and it’s absolutely wonderful and exciting to have the NFL back in sunny Los Angeles.
