Belmont Stakes Day: Longshot Horse Racing Pick for G2 Woody Stephens

It’s Belmont Stakes Day and we have horse racing picks! The big race does indeed look very interesting with a nice full filed and perhaps a favorite that could be vulnerable (unless it starts pouring rain according to some). Prior to the Belmont Stakes there is basically a mini Breeders Cup card on tap at Belmont Park. Let’s take a couple swings with a few bombs that could spice up a ticket. This race profiled is a nice big and juicy field of 3YO going the tricky distance of 7/8ths of a mile.

Race 7 – G2 Woody Stephens 3YO 7F

Here’s a few reasons why this horse might run well here:

Recency/Speed/Pace/Distance/Pattern/Stamina

This 3YO has really gotten good in his last two spins around the oval. Fired a 95 in a two turn 7F race last out and a 94 fig in a one turn mile the race prior. This 7F should be a perfect fit for this horse
Been away about seven weeks and the trainer fires away at 31% of a 31-60 day break, trainer is 25% overall on the year
Nice set of steady drills during the break keeping his fitness level high and fresh
Should be able to stalk from mid pack here and has the pace to stay within range and work out a decent trip

Look, this is a huge field and a major scramble. Maybe this guy can sit mid pack and find some room late as opposed to having to take all the heat up front with a cavalry charging after him. This is a very tough distance to sprint and many times those horses with success at a mile run very well at 7F. Good luck!
