Wizards’ Wall apologizes for gang signs in videoon September 14, 2020 at 1:28 am

Washington Wizards guard John Wall issued an apology on Sunday after a video surfaced of him throwing up gang signs at a New York City party the previous night.

“First and foremost I want to apologize to my family, my teammates and all of those that have always supported me,” Wall wrote in a Twitter post. “I made a mistake, something I regret. I will continue to work hard to be better on the court and more importantly off the court.”

This isn’t the first time Wall has been in hot water for his hand gestures. He has been shown throwing up various signs in games before, including in 2011 and during the playoffs in 2015.

Wall did not play in the 2019-20 NBA season as he was recovering from an Achilles injury he suffered in February 2019. He has not played in an NBA game since December 2018.

Wall has two years left on his contract and is set to be paid $44.3 million in 2021-22. He has a player option for $47.4 million the following year.

In 32 games in 2018-19, Wall averaged 20.7 points, 8.7 assists and 3.6 rebounds. He has career averages of 19.0 points and 9.2 assists. His assists average ranks sixth all-time in NBA history.
