NY Phil has undertaken a feminist project to commemorate American women getting voting rights. This project is ongoing and will continue into 2023. Called Project 19 to emulate the legalization of the 19th Amendment that empowered women, the initiative is going to spotlight the same number of female music composers. This becomes the biggest female-centric project in the orchestral scene ever.
Boston Symphony Orchestra or BSO as it is popularly known, was founded more than 140 years ago in Boston by American businessman Henry Higginson in his hometown Boston. Their current musical director is Andris Nelsons. BSO’s name has now become synonymous to musical excellence and worldwide fame. BSO is actively involved in musical projects which take place for one-night only. One such event is the Symphony Hall Opening Night Celebration which will also be raising funds for BSO.
