The month of April will mark the start of the UFC’s big push towards the upcoming Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. All eyes are set on the UFC light heavyweight championship matches between divisional champions Jon Jones and Lesnar. However, one fight that shouldn’t be ignored is the debut of the brand new NFL Fantasy football game. I’m sure most UFC fans are well aware of the fact that the game is the brainchild of EA Sports and Electronic Arts, but many aren’t aware of its connection to the UFC.
The official UFC website has released several videos featuring former champions and current fighters. Some of them have been featured in previous episodes of “The Ultimate Fighter” reality series, while others are simply featured here for your viewing pleasure. One of the videos highlights the exciting fights that make it to the UFC stage, as seen in the “fight night” episodes of the series. You can’t miss this great intro because it features former heavyweight champion and WWE star Donald Cerrone along with ex-heavyweight champ and WWE star Lesnar.
You’ll also want to check out the latest “Ultimate Fighting Championship” reality series featuring the lighter weight classes. It’s definitely worth a look. In the premiere, titled “Old School,” former lightweight champ Rashad Evans battles submission specialist turn Heavyweight champion and former Heavyweight champ and WWE wrestler Lesnar. Evans is undoubtedly the favorite to win the championship at UFC 2020, but how long will it take to convince viewers he should be in the main event? This rivalry is interesting from start to finish.
Another feature worth noting on the UFC site is the schedule of bouts for the months of May, June, and July. Many of the fights for these months feature former champions or highly skilled fighters with the chance to win the lightweight title in their first fight since losing their last fight. These bouts provide some exciting TV info on who is hot and who isn’t as fans get to see the best of the best in action.
The main card for UFC 2020 is “Olympic Night.” Former Heavyweight champion and WWE star Lesnar will face off against former Lightweight champ and WWE star Tatsuya matsumoto. Also on the main card, former Super Lightweight champ and WWE star Jeff Hardy will face off against ex-WWE star Rich Franklin. These bouts will air on pay per view HD. Be sure to catch them when they air.
Other events include “UFC Uncensored: Silva and submissions” which will feature several matches. Hardy’s first major fight will be against ex-heavyweight champ and WWE star Jeff Hardy. The first episode featured Rich Shamrock vs. Seth Petruzelli. The second featured former WWE wrestlers Rhadi Ferguson and Tye Cowman. Featured in the pay-per-view are two women’s fights, one featuring Rene Dupree and another woman’s fight.
A couple of weeks before the UFC 2020 event, a lot of fighters have been released from their contracts with the UFC. One of those is longtime Women’s Featherweight champion and former WWE star Amanda Nunes. She was quickly replaced by Jessica Aguilar. Both women have filled in some preliminary fights before getting the chance to face each other. No word yet on who will be facing Ronda Rousey for the women’s title at the end of the PPV. The first main event is scheduled to take place in October in Vegas.
There is no clear leader for the vacant lightweight championship with dos Anjos and Khabibnar. dos Anjos is considered the odds on favorite but Khabibnar has been dominating his competition inside the UFC with his ground and pound ability. Many experts believe he has the edge over the up and comer, however, dos Anjos has one more thing going for him in the mean time. He is the lighterweight champion and has the advantage of being the younger man in this competition. After this pay-per-view event, I wouldn’t be surprised if dos Anjos takes over Khabibar’s title.
