Source: Mavs’ Burke staying put on 3-year dealon November 21, 2020 at 2:25 am

Point guard Trey Burke has committed to re-signing with the Dallas Mavericks, agreeing to a three-year deal worth nearly $10 million, a source told ESPN.

The Mavs made re-signing Burke a priority after his strong performance in the NBA’s bubble. Burke, who was waived by the Philadelphia 76ers in the middle of the last season, signed with the Mavs shortly before the league’s restart and averaged 12.1 points and 3.0 assists during the seeding schedule and playoffs.

According to ESPN’s Bobby Marks, Burke did not establish Bird rights with the Mavericks because he was signed as a substitute player. As a result, Dallas had to use a portion of its $9.3 million midlevel exception to re-sign him.

Burke’s contract in Dallas has a 7.5% trade kicker and player option in Year 3, according to Marks. He is only the 23rd player in the league with a trade kicker.

Burke, 28, also played well during his previous brief tenure with the Mavs, averaging 9.7 points and 2.6 assists off the bench in 25 games during the 2018-19 season, when he arrived in Dallas as part of the Kristaps Porzingis trade with the New York Knicks.

Burke, the No. 9 overall pick in the 2013 NBA draft, has career averages of 10.6 points and 3.5 assists per game while playing for five teams.
