John Lucas has agreed to a deal to join new Houston Rockets coach Stephen Silas on his coaching staff, sources told ESPN’s Tim MacMahon and Adrian Wojnarowski.

Lucas had been in a player development role under former coach Mike D’Antoni.

Lucas was a finalist for the Rockets’ head-coaching job and is immensely respected throughout the organization, from ownership to the locker room.

From 1992 to 2003, Lucas spent parts of two seasons each as a head coach with the San Antonio Spurs, Philadelphia 76ers and Cleveland Cavaliers.
