The 2016 NBA Finals between the Cleveland Cavaliers and Golden State Warriors is generating incredible excitement and deservedly so. While the Cleveland Cavaliers took advantage of a little bit of rest the Golden State Warriors rebounded from a 3-1 deficit in an epic series against the Oklahoma City Thunder. The series certainly does not lack star power either as all eyes will closely monitor the performances of Lebron James and Steph Curry.
But what about Kyrie Irving and his amazing offensive skills in this bombs away series destined to create an absolute tsunami of three-point attempts on the court? Considered by many to be one of the top ten if not top five players in the NBA, Kyrie Irving may not have yet attained true superstar brand recognition and perhaps that is due to the so far ups and downs of his career with respect to injuries and games missed. Looking back on Kyrie Irving’s NBA career to this point we can see that in the regular season he has played between 51 and 75 games with three seasons of less than 60 games played to include the 53 he played in the current season. During the current NBA season Irving shot 32% from behind the arc which is below his career average and also shot a little below his overall career FG percentage for the year.
However, during the playoffs Kyrie Irving seems to be peaking at just the right time. Irving is averaging 24.3 points per game and is shooting a sizzling 46% from three point range. Of course Lebron James, Steph Curry, Draymond Green, Klay Thompson and others will play big roles in this series but perhaps no other player can make as much of a difference on the ultimate outcome than Irving. As Kyrie Irving and his rested and healthy Cleveland Cavaliers take on the Golden State Warriors perhaps this is the year that Irving gets to show his immense talents and skills to tens of millions of basketball fans by helping his team take on the vaunted Warriors in this star studded NBA Finals.
