How To Have a Great First Music Festival

Attending your first music festival can be an exciting but nerve-racking time. Knowing what to expect and how to prepare is important to ensure you have a fantastic time. Keep reading to learn how to have a great first music festival.

Plan Ahead

Music festivals are full of choices. To ensure you can see every artist you want to and avoid stress, make a plan for the sets and stages you need to be at throughout the day. From there, you can plan meal and bathroom breaks to ensure you don’t miss any of your favorite songs.

Dress Comfortably

Don’t let fashion bloggers’ Coachella pictures deceive you; dressing for festivals is about function over fashion. Wear comfortable clothing and shoes suitable for standing and walking all day. Consider the weather conditions and pack layers, sunscreen, hats, and sunglasses to stay comfortable throughout any forecasted weather.

Stay Hydrated

Don’t forget to stay hydrated throughout the festival. Many festivals won’t allow outside food or drink, so leave time in the morning to refill your reusable water bottle at a water station or buy a new bottle of water from the festival before heading to your first set of the day. Dehydration can lead to medical issues that stand in the way of you seeing the bands you want to, so don’t overlook it!

Practice Proper Porta-Potty Etiquette

Portable bathrooms are a common feature at music festivals. To prevent hold-ups in the line that may disrupt others’ experience at the festival, be sure to practice proper portable bathroom etiquette. This includes respecting others’ privacy, not cutting in line, and keeping facilities clean. By practicing good etiquette, you’ll help others have a positive music festival experience as well.

Now that you know how to have a great first music festival, you can attend your first one! Enjoy the music and the memories; soon, you may be teaching the next generation of festival-goers how it’s done.
