How Events Could Change After COVID-19

The “new normal” of the last year has changed how we interact with others in public and the standards of sanitation we expect to keep us safe from germs and bacteria. Finally, we can start to see the light at the end of the tunnel for this pandemic, but that doesn’t mean we’ll necessarily return to life beforehand. We will struggle to break these new lessons within the public, so here’s how events should change after COVID-19.

Focus On Hygiene

With much higher standers for sanitation, events should expect to uphold these standards and take the extra effort to ensure to provide and enforce hygiene. For example, those cheap port-a-potties aren’t going to cut it anymore: they are filthy and lack any utilities, making it a breeding ground for germs. Instead, invest in higher quality portable restroom trailers that provide attendees a flushable toilet and handwashing station. You’ll greatly improve the hygiene of your event and reduce the spread of germs throughout the crowd.

Responsible Catering

Another aspect of how events should change after COVID-19 is the way they handle food and beverages. Leave buffet-style catering behind with the pandemic. Having a bunch of food sitting out in the open is a biohazard waiting to happen. Any of your guests could sneeze or cough over the buffet. Instead, catering should provide food ready to take and go—much like a restaurant’s to-go meals. Protected by some packaging will keep it convenient while still shielding the food from potential germs.

Directing Social Traffic

Part of the new normal is, of course, social distancing. The idea of large groups of people is now considered dangerous, and that mindset is difficult to break after COVID-19. A good middle ground is to plan and emphasize controlling the flow of foot traffic throughout the event. This entails avoiding traffic jams that mash crowds of people together or prevent people from gathering in areas like around the bathroom or refreshments. One-way techniques that many shops have adapted during the pandemic are a good start by designating entrances and exits to ensure people move in and out safely.
