Fantasy Football Value Gem: Week 9

Fantasy Football Value Gem: We are moving on to Week 9 after another solid performance from our selection in Week 8.  Davontae Booker did not set the world on fire but he did pick up 18+ fantasy points at just $3,700.  The intent here is to find a low cost but productive option to round out a roster in a DFS contest.  Of course anyone can select the obvious choices if one wishes to pay those high salaries, but unfortunately one can’t fill an entire roster with the top salaries at every position.

Let’s take a look at the Kansas City Chiefs this week and their home game hosting the Jacksonville Jaguars. The Jacksonville Jaguars rank 24^th in the NFL in run defense efficiency.  The Jaguars ranked 9^th in the NFL in the most first downs allowed on defense and they rank 6^th in the NFL in points/game allowed on defense (meaning the 6^th MOST points/game allowed).  The team has a 3-5 record and is simply quite mediocre at this point. 

The Kansas City Chiefs saw former superstar RB Jamal Charles go down again this past week with a season ending injury. RB Spencer Ware is in the concussion protocol currently and did not practice on Wednesday.  Somebody has to get the touches on offense out of the backfield.   Given that the Jags are quite modest and the Chiefs are in the thick of the playoff hunt, Head Coach Andy Reid desperately needs this win and to take advantage of an inferior opponent at home.  The Chiefs could also be using their backup QB again.  They might have a lead as well where they look to protect it and kill the clock.  All of these things could help a RB that is in the featured role.

West is not a superstar and likely will never be a star in the NFL. However, this week at just $4,400 he offers very solid value here.  Let’s be honest:  West has been decent when he gets touches but not great.  For the full season of 2015 and so far this year he has averaged 4.0 yards per carry or more.  He’s a legitimate professional RB.  If he plays the full game and gets 18+ touches who knows he might even find the end zone. 

Let’s take a stab with RB Charcandrick West this week at just $4,400 so we can spend more on other roster spots.  West could certainly bring back 15+ points in this spot.  Good luck and enjoy the games!
