Fantasy Football Value Gem: Week 3

Fantasy Football Value Gem:  Our Value Gem in Week 2 was a very solid performer for the salary cost of merely $3,700.  Tyrell Williams hauled in 3 catches for 61 yards and a touchdown.  On we go to Week 3.  The intent here is to find a low cost but productive option to round out a roster in a DFS contest.  Of course anyone can select the obvious choices if one wishes to pay those high salaries, but unfortunately one can’t fill an entire roster with the top salaries at every position.

Let’s take a look at the San Diego Chargers again this week and their trip to Indianapolis to face a very suspect defense and a team desperate for a win. The Chargers have injury challenges at the WR and RB position with the loss of Keenan Allen and Danny Woodhead yet they have shown the ability to adapt to these challenges in both games thus far.

The Colts defense has allowed 391 total yards and 5 touchdowns to opposing running backs through the first two weeks. The Chargers come in without Woodhead and Melvin Gordon is coming off a huge game last week.  Gordon should get even more touches this week against this very modest Colts defense and possibly catch more balls as well with the loss of Woodhead as an outlet out of the backfield.  We like to find value picks below the $4,000 salary level but this is too enticing given the expected number of touches.

The Chargers defense is also nothing to write home about despite holding Jacksonville in check in Week 2.  In Week 1 the Bolt defense gave up a huge lead to the Chiefs and oddsmakers have this total set at 52.5 for this game.  There could be some explosive back and forth action this week presenting Melvin Gordon with a few scoring opportunities.
