Fantasy Football Value Gem:

We are moving on to Week 12.  Our published Value Gem selection in Week 11 was a huge success with Jamison Crowder racking up over 22 points.

The New England Patriots and New York Jets meet again in Week 12 to tussle in a division matchup. The obvious players from a fantasy perspective in this game tend to carry heavy price tags and/or offer a more risky reward given the investment.  Let’s see if we can find some value along with consistency in terms of touches.

Season Stats: 189 carries, 732 yards, 7 TDs. 23 catches, 179 yards, 1 TD.

The New England Patriots are ranked 19^th in the NFL on defense in surrendering first downs per game.  The Pats are 12^th in yards/play on defense and 17^th in total yards allowed on defense.  This isn’t a terrible defense but it is very average at best currently.  The Pats also lost DT Alan Branch to a suspension this week and are still searching for solid answers at linebacker after the trade of Jamie Collins.

The New York Jets stink and desperately need a win. Their best option is to do what they can in terms of protecting the football as they have inserted QB Ryan Fitzpatrick back into the lineup this week.  Fitzpatrick needs to avoid interceptions and needs a good running game behind him.  This could lead to check down throws to Forte and a consistent use of Forte on the ground.  Forte consistently gets the touches every week and has had some big games in terms of fantasy value against some modest defenses. 

Let’s take a stab with RB Matt Forte this week at just $5,500 so we can spend more on other roster spots.  Forte could certainly bring back 15+ points in this spot and maybe over 20 in this specific matchup.  Good luck and enjoy the games!
