There’s a lot to love about Redondo Beach – the pier, the beaches, the people, the quaint shops. And it’s also one of the most popular destinations for people who want to enjoy that famous SoCal laidback lifestyle.
Redondo Beach is the birthplace of surfing in America, and there are tons of things to do to experience this renowned beach culture! Whether you’re visiting for a few days or are a local, there are plenty of fun activities to do.
Redondo Beach is one of LA’s South Bay beach towns that is known for its vibrant harbor, world-famous horseshoe pier and kilometers of pristine sand. It is also home to some of the best restaurants in California where you can enjoy waterfront dining while watching the sunset over the Pacific Ocean.
The Redondo Beach Pier is a popular tourist attraction where you can play arcade games, ride the tilt-a-whirl, and watch anglers reel in their catch before stopping for snacks or drinks at one of the numerous restaurants located along the pier. Some of the top eateries include Kincaid’s and Captain Kidd’s where you can order from their kitchen menu or choose from cuts of fresh fish directly from the fish case.
The Strand, a long and winding boardwalk on the sand, runs right along the beach and is ideal for strolling or long bike rides. The Strand is also an excellent spot for sunbathing and watching the surf.
Seaside Lagoon is a seasonal salt water facility that offers trained lifeguard supervision and a variety of family activities. Open during summer, the lagoon offers a large sand area for sunbathing, snack bars provided by Ruby’s Restaurant, volleyball courts and children’s play equipment.
Known as the ’LA’s Ocean Adventure Capital,’ Redondo Beach has a pristine 1.5-mile-long beach that stretches from the pier south. It’s a favorite for outdoor enthusiasts who enjoy surfing, hiking, cycling, fishing, sailing and kayaking.
There’s also a large recreational and commercial harbor including King Harbor, a 1,500-slip private craft port. Other recreational attractions include a public library, fifteen parks and thirteen parkettes.
Another popular attraction is the Redondo Beach Performing Arts Center. Located in North Redondo, the cultural facility offers dance and theatre performances, speaker series, private events and a diverse range of other events.
Redondo Beach is a vibrant city with plenty of culture and things to do. Visit the city’s historical museum, located inside a 1904 Queen Anne house, to learn about the history of Redondo Beach and its people.
The city also boasts a scenic pier and some of the best surfing in the country. The best time to go is during spring and summer.
Besides the beaches, visitors can enjoy various outdoor activities here, including hiking, cycling, fishing, sailing, kayaking, scuba diving, paddleboarding, and snorkeling. You can also see a whale on a charter or visit an aquarium for a closer look at marine life.
The city also has many green spaces, like the Hopkins Wilderness Park. This park stretches over 11 miles and offers a wide range of recreational activities. You can also go camping in this park if you want to spend the night under the stars.
If you are a fan of fine art and landscape photography, then you have got to check out Gallery JS. This awe-inspiring art and photographic studio in the heart of Redondo Beach’s Riviera Village is owned by landscape photographer Jill Sanders and her partner Joshua Serafin.
The gallery showcases some of the best photography you will find in Southern California. Among other interesting art pieces are some really cool sculptures made from wood, metal and glass.
Other interesting things to do in this Southern California city include checking out the South Bay Galleria, strolling across the pier, shopping the stores of Wonder of Dinosaurs and Mie Pearl Jewelry and eating at the famous Eat at Joe’s. If you are a die-hard art lover, you can even take a tour of the aforementioned Museum of Modern Art. Lastly, don’t miss the opportunity to see the city from the water with a harbor cruise. It is the most relaxing and fun way to get to know the place a little better.
