The 4 most successful MLB franchises of all time
The World Series is a baseball competition that first started in 1903. It is the championship title of the MLB and it makes up the final matches of the MLB postseason. It usually takes the format of a best of 7 competition between 2 teams. The World Series usually takes place in October.
Since the dawn of the competition, there have been 117 events. There are 6 teams in the MLB that are yet to win a World Series Title. Today, we are going to look at the teams who have won the most titles.
1903, 1912, 1915, 1916, 1918, 2004, 2007, 2013, 2018
The Red Sox have a mixed record with the World Series. Before 1918, they held the record for the most World Series wins within one decade. However, the Red Sox believe that they were struck by a curse after selling Babe Ruth to the New York Giants.
This curse became known as the Curse of the Bambino – after Babe Ruth’s childhood nickname.
After 2 very successful decades at the start of the 20th century, the Red Sox went 86 years without winning the world series. On multiple occasions, they made it to the final of the world series only to be beaten by the Giants.
The curse was eventually broken in 2004 when the Red Sox beat the Cardinals 4-0 overall. There are many different theories about how the curse was broken – including when a boy who lived in Babe Ruth’s childhood home was hit in the face by a ball hit by his favorite player.
1910, 1911, 1913, 1929, 1930, 1972, 1973, 1974, 1989
The Oakland Athletics (formally known as the Philadelphia Athletics and the Kansas City Athletics) also have 9 World Series wins to their name.
The Athletics are one of the oldest teams in the MLB, so it is no surprise that a lot of their World Series wins are historic. They have not won a World Series title since 1989 and they haven’t played in a World Series match since 1990.
The team was first formed in 1901. They started in Philadelphia and moved to Kansas City in 1955, before settling in Oakland in 1968. They still play in Oakland.
They won their last title under manager Tony La Russa. With La Russa, they won three consecutive pennants, the 1989 World Series title, and made it to the World Series finals in 1990.
The Athletics are currently at +8000 to win the World Series next year – would any of their players make it into your MLB DFS picks?
1926, 1931, 1934, 1942, 1944, 1946, 1964, 1967, 1982, 2006, 2011

One of the most notable things about the Cardinals is that they have incredibly strong support and fan base. The Cardinals regularly top the tables for highest game attendance and TV viewing figures.
The Cardinals’ main rivals are the Cubs, who have won 3 World Series titles. However, the teams have never played against each other in the World Series.
One of the most famous World Series events for the Cardinals was in 2004 when the Red Sox broke the Curse of the Bambino. They were also beaten by the Red Sox the last time they played in the World Series which was in 2013.
1923, 1927, 1928, 1932, 1936, 1937, 1938, 1939, 1941, 1943, 1947, 1949, 1950, 1951, 1952, 1953, 1956, 1958, 1961, 1962, 1977, 1978, 1996, 1998, 1999, 2000, 2009
It will be no surprise to any baseball fan that the Yankees are at the top of this list. No one else is anywhere near beating their record, in fact, they may never be overtaken.
The Yankees have played in a total of 43 World Series competitions. Of these 43 they have won 27. Their most recent win and appearance were in 2009. They have won the AL (American League) 40 times since the club was created.
The team was founded in 1901, its creators wanted to start the club in New York but they were blocked by the New York Giants. So, the club was started in Baltimore before being moved back to New York in 1903.
Their biggest rivals are the Boston Red Sox – their biggest competition with them was in 1978 when the Sox came back from 0-3 in the world series to beat the Yankees.
